Childhood Cancer
The Truth 365 is a website dedicated to fighting and raising funds for childhood cancer, an underfunded form of cancer - in OUR CHILDREN !! They are using the power of Social Media to bring awareness to cancer in children !!
First of all, the kid in this video is Taylor Love and she is the one who got me involved in this cause. Over 5 years ago I met her and her awesome family and my life will never be the same.
The second reason is that Taylor is doing well right now and just got clear scan results. She has fought neuroblastoma and then chemo-induced leukemia requiring a bone marrow transplant and then kidney failure and then liver surgery this spring plus a bunch of other things that I have lost track of.
The third reason is that the song is the theme song to our film. It is called “The Truth” and it is written by Nicole Ricken, a 14-year-old from the Chicago area. I met her this spring at a Pennies for Patients fundraiser at her school that was partially for Taylor Love. A few months later I went to Chicago to interview some families for the film and stopped in to meet with Nicole and her family. One of the amazing things was that she wrote this song the day before I got there. She and her family also flew in the DC-area on September 1 and Nicole played this at Ryan Raffel’s Celebration of Life.

American Girl Dolls without Hair
Not something every girl with cancer would want - a reminder of lost hair from chemo, but it's an option with American Girl dolls and you can later replace the doll head to one with hair.

Monsters in the closet...
If your parents told you monsters don't live in the closet or under the bed - they lied. Some kids have never seen these monsters, but too many have. You would think most of the kids would be scared, and they are - a little bit, but more often they are braver than any knight in shining armor. One monster is actually a very large family with crazy names; like acute lymphoblastic leukemia, neuroblastoma, hepatoblastoma - but they all have the same last name, CANCER. Children are facing this cancer monster as if it's a fire-breathing dragon (for real), and they have more courage in their fragile bodies than you have in your little finger. So please, give them some weapons to help them fight off these monsters.
Regardless of which group you pick to help kill these monsters, please join the battle and keep kids safe from monsters!

MiracleKids Triathlon
On Saturday, August 4th my 12 year old son, Jake Knudson (Emily's BFF) is participating in his third triathlon, the MiracleKids Triathlon, a fundraiser of children with cancer.
We are trying to raise $1,000.00 and our shop Crafting for a Cause by Tubs, Tabbies and Trains featuring items with the net proceeds going to the MiracleKids Triathlon. If you see this and would like to donate, go to the Triathlon site, select donate, participant and find my son. Thank you!
This is my son's 1st triathlon, at 10 years old!
He participates in memory of my dad, in honor of my sister,
and one of Mitch's All-Stars, a child fighting cancer.
We've lost 9 kids since last year's triathlon,
so please join our fight against cancer!
